Despite much research, there are no conclusive studies that clearly indicate the link that joins academic self-concept and academic achievement (Sanchez Roda 2003).Existing theor y and research of Deci and Ryan (in Mnyandu 20011) have shown that self-determination (intrinsic motivation, extrinsic motivation and amotivation) plays a bombastic role in the academic performance of learners. Kushmand, Sieber and Harold (in Broussard 2002) declare that a high level of motivation and meshing in learning has consistently been linked to a reduction in the number of drop-outs, and to increased levels of student success. In any academic setting, whether it be elementary, secondary or higher education, a students motivation for learning is generally regarded as one of the most important determinants, if not the premier determinant, of the success and quality of the learning outcome (Mitchell in Broussard 20017). However, the relationship between motivation and academic achievement remains complex (McCoach Siegle 200173). Mnyandu (200111) declares that both intrinsic and extrinsic motivation, are prerequisites for academic achievement.
